NAMTEC LAUNCH TECHNICAL SKILLS AUDIT FOR METALS SECTOR
NAMTEC are carrying out a national technical skills audit. Many of you will recognise the issue of skills as being one that needs to be addressed urgently.
The metals industry in particular is short of skilled employees. By skills we mean the core technology skills that differentiate our industry from many others. For our sector to move forward we need a constant and steady supply of good people joining the industry and to be professional in the way we employ and develop them when they arrive. This is one area where companies must act together to ensure we achieve the critical mass necessary for our sector to grow. Clearly we are not achieving that at the moment.
The National Metals Technology Centre (NAMTEC) through the Special Metals Forum (SMF) and the Titanium Information Group (TIG) is working to redress that imbalance. As part of that we need to establish current baseline activity levels, and identify future needs. Establishing this information is critical if we are to create an effective response. to access the questionnaire on the NAMTEC website. If you could take the time to fill out the attached and return by post or e-mail (as indicated on the form). NAMTEC are committed to collating the data on behalf of the sector and then acting to coordinate the appropriate response at both a national and regional level.
